Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed said the UAE, a multicultural and international country, has always been keen to deepen relations with different countries and forge strong partnerships in various fields including the cultural and creative sectors.
Sheikha Latifa added: “My visit to the Czech Republic and meeting with President Milos Zeman of the Czech Republic is in line with our leadership’s efforts to establish an open dialogue and constructive communication with all countries, thereby enhancing the status of Dubai and the UAE as a A preferred destination characterised by tolerance and diversity, and strengthening our position as a global centre for arts and culture. In meetings with Czech officials, I was briefed on the exemplary achievements of the country’s cultural sector and various cultural institutions. Sheikha Latifa also highlighted the role of cultural and knowledge exchange in boosting the industry, adding that ICOM 2022 in Prague is an ideal platform to introduce Emirati culture to the world.
Sheikha Latifa participated in several meetings with Czech Republic officials and ICOM members and leaders as part of the UAE head of delegation’s visit to Prague.
Rem Hashemi, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, said the meeting falls within the framework of strengthening international cooperation in related fields. “The UAE is constantly looking for opportunities to develop partnerships with the international community. We hosted an inclusive World Expo in Dubai a few months ago and we look forward to continuing to work with partners from around the world to achieve the SDGs. The first official day also included meetings with the Ministry of Culture, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Mayor of Prague, as well as local government officials.
Jiri Slavic, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the UAE, said: “We are proud that Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed is leading the UAE delegation to the 26th International Council of Museums (ICOM) Congress in Prague, Czech Republic in 2022. Her visit represents the Another important milestone in a strong relationship, and we look forward to further collaboration opportunities.”
ICOM is the world’s leading organization of museum professionals and institutions dedicated to promoting and protecting cultural heritage, discussing issues relevant to the future of the field, and advancing ethical practice in museums. ICOM 2022 under the theme “The Power of Museums” will be held in Prague from August 20th to 28th. The ICOM General Assembly is held every three years. The upcoming 27th conference is scheduled to take place in Dubai, making it the first city in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA) region to host the prestigious global conference.
The UAE delegation participating in Dubai Culture included Halabadri, Director General of Dubai Culture; Muna Faisal AlGurg, Chief Executive Officer of the Culture and Heritage Sector; Mariam Al Afridi, Executive Director of the Chairman’s Office; and Maryam Mudhaffar Ahli, Project Manager of the Museums Sector. The delegation also included representatives from ICOM UAE Chapter (ICOM-UAE), including ICOM-UAE Interim Chairman Rashad Bukhash and several ICOM-UAE members from the country’s museum sector.
