The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reportedly imposed visa restrictions on Nigerians after a cult clash between Eiye and Aiye, allegedly perpetrated by Nigerians, broke out in the Sharjah region of the country.
It is uncertain whether the UAE government has issued any official statement on this, but several travel agencies and residents in Dubai have reportedly confirmed the development.
The UAE embassy in Abuja has not responded to questions sent to them about the development.
The UAE’s decision is said to be based on a video that went viral last week in which a group of men armed with machetes yelled in an apartment car park, chased each other and vandalised public property.
Police said in a July 21 statement that the suspect is of African descent and warned residents not to participate in the violence.
“Dubai Police have arrested a group of people who engaged in a heated argument at their home late at night. The group of Africans appeared in a viral video on social media platforms while fighting and vandalizing property in public places,” the statement read.
Police also said criminal charges have been filed against the suspects and they will be referred to the public prosecution for further action.
