Vanessa Bryant donates settlement to charity Entertainment

Vanessa Bryant will donate her $16 million settlement to charity.

Earlier this week, a jury ruled that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and Fire Department (LAFD) caused emotional distress by sharing photos of the deadly January 2020 helicopter crash that killed her husband, basketball legend Kobe Bryant Bryant and their daughter Gianna, while her co-plaintiff Chris Chester — whose wife Sarah and 13-year-old daughter Payton were also killed in the accident — received $15 million.

Now, Vanessa’s lawyer, Luis Li, has confirmed that she will donate the money to Mamba and the Mambacita Foundation because she has not acted for financial gain.

“From the beginning, Vanessa Bryant has sought only accountability, but our legal system does not allow her to enforce better policies, more training or officer discipline,” Lewis said in a statement.

“These measures are the responsibility of the sheriff and the fire service – Mrs Bryant’s efforts have exposed the gross inadequacy of these responsibilities and even pardoned the wrongdoers.

“Mrs Bryant was brave and never wavered, even when the county government tried to force her to undergo an involuntary psychiatric examination. She is very grateful to Ralph Mendes and Luella Verrett, who It’s the good Samaritans who exposed decades of drug use. Photos of accident and crime victims are shared with no legitimate purpose.

“Mrs. Bryant hopes this important civil rights case will put an end to this hateful and callous behavior.”

Vanessa hopes the money will “brighten Kobe and Gigi’s legacy.”

After the jury reached its verdict on Wednesday (24/08/22) within hours, attorneys for the county insisted they “disagree” with the findings.

“While we disagree with the jury’s finding of responsibility for the county, we believe the monetary verdict shows that the jury did not believe the evidence to support the plaintiff’s claim of $75 million,” the county’s lead outside attorney, Attorney Mila Hashmar, said in a statement. Emotional distress for the dollar.

“We will discuss next steps with our clients. In the meantime, we hope Kobe and Chester’s families continue to recover from their tragic losses.”
