Mother of Nation Sheikha Fatima praised the contribution of Emirati women to the development and progress of the UAE.
Minister of State Dr Maitha Al Shamsi, speaking on her behalf at an event organised by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to mark the UAE’s eighth annual UAE Women’s Day, praised their enthusiasm for actively engaging the public and private sectors.
Sheikha Fatima praised Adnoc’s commitment to empowering women and increasing their participation in the oil and gas sector.
She said Adnoc’s female staff is an example of the contribution of Emirati women to the UAE.
More than 1,000 women currently work at Adnoc’s onshore and offshore sites, including the oil and gas industry’s first all-female engineering leadership team, working at the Rumaitha field in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikha Fatima said: “Each year, I have witnessed the steady progress you have made in increasing your job percentage, professionally progressing and developing your performance through training, practice and experience.”
“This enhances your skills and abilities, enabling you to make an effective and outstanding contribution to your country.
“Women now occupy top leadership positions in Adnoc, no longer a numerical percentage of Adnoc’s workforce, but a strong and influential human capital that plays a major role in the company’s progress.”
To mark Emirati Women’s Day, Adnoc signed the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, which provide guidance for businesses seeking to promote gender equality in the workplace.
Twenty percent of Adnoc’s management positions are held by women, including three chief executive officers, and 16 of the Adnoc Group’s 18 companies have women on their boards.
In addition, Adnoc’s Domestic Value programme has enabled over 1,500 Emirati women to be employed in the private sector in the UAE since the programme was launched in 2018.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of Adnoc, said the company will continue to help Emirati women develop their careers in the energy sector.
“Empowering Emirati women has always been a practice set by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and today our wise leadership is keen to give them opportunities to reach their full potential, enabling them to participate fully in the social progress of the economy and the country,” said Dr Al Jaber.
“Adnoc continues to empower women by providing everything necessary to encourage female employees to build successful careers in the energy sector.
“Adnoc has policies and initiatives that encourage women’s participation and promote work-family life balance, and we have provided all the necessary facilities to meet the needs of our female employees in our offices, factories, and onshore and offshore oilfields.”
