Frédéric Denèfle, Managing Director of French maritime war risk specialist Garex, has been announced by the IUMI Nominations Committee as a candidate for President of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI).
Kosuke Hashimoto, currently Vice Chairman of the IUMI Executive Committee and General Manager Marine Underwriting of Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance, has been nominated for the post of Vice President. The role of vice president is a new position.
The current president, Richard Turner, will step down on September 21, 2022, after his four-year term. Candidates for these positions will be considered by the IUMI Council at a meeting in Chicago from September 19-21, 2022, and will be officially announced after voting has closed.

Denèfle has a long history at IUMI, serving on the Executive Committee since 2018. Before that, he chaired the Legal and Liability Technical Committee since 2015.
He has been a strong promoter of IUMI throughout his career, liaising with various West African market representatives to establish links with these emerging markets, and has been a member of the Relief Forum since its inception.
Denèfle has 34 years of experience in the insurance industry. He started working in legal claims processing, first with the Reunion Européenne in Paris and then with the French market organization CESAM. He joined the AGF MAT/Allianz Group in 1998 and worked there until 2012.

In 2013 he started a new role at Garex as Managing Director of Marine War Insurance Underwriting in Paris.
He has spent most of his career in the claims and legal environment, focusing on the follow-up of major marine incidents in hull and cargo. He then became involved in legal matters, including compliance issues.
Denèfle is a former member of several technical claims and legal marine insurance committees of the French Insurance Federation (FFA) and has been a regular participant of the Association Francaise Du Droit Maritime.
