[ad_1]

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Authority (ADAFSA) said it has signed a partnership agreement with the Khalifa Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (KCGEB) to implement a detailed implementation plan for all phases of the Abu Dhabi Agrigenomics Initiative.

Launched by ADAFSA in partnership with a number of national research centres, this initiative is the first of its kind in the region and aims to apply best international practices related to agricultural genetics research, thereby enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position in the field at the regional and international level .

This plan is part of ADAFSA’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025. It aims to develop local botanical, animal and fish flavors to improve agricultural production and address the emirate’s climate and environmental challenges.

It also features the establishment of gene banks and databases to protect local plant, animal and fish genetic resources.

“This agreement aims to facilitate our collaboration with KCGEB through the implementation of the Agrigenome Programme. This programme promotes sustainable agricultural production by improving plant and animal species, thereby increasing the contribution of the agricultural sector to Abu Dhabi’s GDP,” Deputy Minister Maryam Hareb Al Dr Suwaidi said ADAFSA Director General for Operational Affairs after signing the agreement with KCGEB Director Dr Khalid Ahmed Amir.

Al Suwaidi stressed that the Genome Project will help create a scientific database for the field and qualify national genomics research experts.

She added that the program serves as a local and regional reference in using genomic technologies to improve agricultural production and rationalize natural resource consumption.

Dr. Amiri said KCGEB has extensive experience in applying genomic technology and providing unique solutions for sustainable agricultural development.

He added that the Genome Project reflects ADAFSA’s deep vision to achieve its goals and localize scientific knowledge.-TradeArabia News Service
