Silverstone’s website describes the car as the Princess of Wales’ last Ford Escort, with 24,961 miles on it. It belonged to the Princess of Wales between 1985 and 1988.
The Princess is often seen driving the car around Chelsea and Kensington and drove 6,800 miles before returning to Ford. After it was returned, the car had multiple owners before it was returned to Ford, according to the Silverstone website.
The site makes no mention of the auction winner.
The RS Turbo Series 1 is normally white, but the royal guards requested that Diana’s car be painted black “at their discretion”, the auctioneer said.
Arwel Richards, a vintage car specialist at Silverstone Auctions, told Reuters earlier this week that letting the Princess drive the car was “a very brave choice”.

Next week marks the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death, aged 36, when the limo she was a passenger in crashed in a Paris tunnel as it sped away from paparazzi chasing motorcycles.
