The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has welcomed its first female captain, all thanks to Etihad Airways, which made history by promoting a female pilot to captain. Aisha Al Mansoori, the UAE’s first female captain, was Etihad Airways’ first officer until her promotion this week. In addition, Mansouri is the first female airline captain in the UAE and the first to fly for Etihad. Etihad’s Crew Briefing Centre hosted her promotion. Notably, Captain Mansouri joined the airline in 2007 and has since achieved several milestones in her career.
According to Simple fly, Al Mansoori started working for the airline in 2007 as a trainee. She completed her training in 2010 when she boarded an Airbus A320 as co-pilot for her maiden flight. By working hard and dedicating many years of her life to this mission, she has developed the knowledge, competencies and flying time required to join Etihad Airways as Captain. This is her second major contribution to women in aviation. She earlier made history by becoming the UAE’s first female pilot to fly an Airbus A380.
Mohammad Al Bulooki, Group Chief Operating Officer, Etihad Airways, said in a statement: “Etihad Airways is very proud of Captain Aisha’s achievements and her pioneering role for women in Emirates aviation. There is no Doubt she will be the first of many and Etihad looks forward to welcoming more female pilots to the rank of captain in the future.”
