Aster Homes in UAE builds 255 homes for families hit by floods in 2018

Abu Dhabi: United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Indian hospital group Aster DM Healthcare provided 255 Aster homes to victims of the 2018 Kerala floods who lost everything in the devastating disaster.

In August 2018, severe flooding hit the southern Indian state of Kerala due to unusually heavy rainfall during the monsoon season.

It was the worst flooding in Kerala in nearly a century.

More than 483 people were killed in the disaster, with 15 reported missing.

In 2018, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the mission Rebuild Kerala Provide assistance in the recovery of flood victims and guarantee Aster homes will be provided.

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan handed over the keys to the beneficiary in the presence of other guests during a grand ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, August 27.

The feature also saw the official launch of Aster Homes website Geotagged with details of 255 beneficiaries, individuals, NGOs and associations supporting the mission.

As originally promised,

  • New homes are built for people who have lost their homes and land who have thought about individual sustainable housing designs
  • Several philanthropists give free cluster homes to a group of people on this land
  • Renovation of a partially damaged house.

The construction of 255 houses was completed at a cost of Rs 150 crore. About 60 Aster employees also participated in the scheme, raising Rs 22.5 million to build 45 houses.

Dr Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare, said in his introductory remarks: “We feel successful and today that promise has been delivered as the Governor dedicates the last 255 homes to beneficiaries . , Shri Arif Mohamad Khan in Trivandrum itself. We are happy that together we can walk the talk and deliver on our promises.”

He added: “This is a huge undertaking, accomplished through the perseverance and hard work of Aster Volunteers, supported by like-minded organisations and people.”

Aster DM Healthcare is one of the larger healthcare service providers operating in India and the Middle East.

The company operates 27 hospitals, 115 clinics and 225 pharmacies with more than 21,000 employees. These include more than 2,880 doctors, 6,280 nurses and nearly 11,000 support staff.
