Abu Dhabi’s own art and design hub, Warehouse421, announces new educational initiative

Warehouse421, Abu Dhabi’s homegrown arts and design hub dedicated to showcasing and nurturing creative work across the region, has announced new seasonal offerings for its 2022 education programme.

The program runs year-round and includes several initiatives to promote learning for youth of all ages, skill levels and abilities.

The program includes a youth studio program, creative careers day workshops at the Jameel Arts Center, docent tours open to the public, and university and school-specific tours.

Warehouse421 is delighted to release the first ever tactile book designed for visually impaired children and teens, available at the center along with an immersive audio experience and a guide to in-gallery activities, designed to enrich Warhouse421’s exhibitions for younger audiences and accessible to the general public.

Commenting on the program, Dana Al Mazourei, Education Program Manager at Warehouse421, said: “Education is at the heart of everything we do at Warehouse421. Our team continues to design and develop programs for the community that are open to all, across age groups and backgrounds. We are incredibly proud of our youth-focused programs that invite children, high school and college students to experiment, spark their curiosity and inspire a love of creative expression.”

“We are excited to work with outstanding partners on some of our projects, including ADEK and SEDRA, allowing us to engage with the larger youth community and make a stronger impact in our communities,” she added .

For the new season, Teen Studios will return in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). The program is designed to support high school students interested in pursuing an art degree at university and offers three components: studio practice, portfolio review and programming, all designed to support artists in grades 10-13 for their careers Get ready for your career. Art. Teen Studios will launch in October 2022 and participants will apply through an open call for applications to open in September 2022.

In addition to Teen Studios, Warehouse421 will be taking part in the Creative Careers Day event at the Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai later this year, with several workshops designed to best prepare high school students for a career in the arts.

Notably, Warehouse421 will debut its first tactile book, a program designed for visually impaired children and people of determination.

The books will be available free of charge at the centre and provide insights into the exhibitions held by Warehouse421.

The center will also have a dedicated in-gallery activity guide for kids, featuring fun activities and drawing tips inspired by the exhibition.

An immersive audio experience created in partnership with SEDRA is an exciting addition to the program. It offers all visitors a curated listening tour of the artwork on display at Warehouse421. Audio guides complement the interpretive guided tours that are available all year round and are open to all ages on Sundays and Tuesdays. Warehouse421’s docents are a group of young art lovers trained by the centre’s team to give visitors an in-depth look at key artworks, artists and curators.

In addition, Warehouse421 offers dedicated guided tours for college and high school students every Tuesday. All tours are tailored for tourists and conducted in English and Arabic.
