ISLAMABAD: United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has pledged his full support to those affected by floods in Pakistan, ARY News reported on Thursday.

According to the details, the UAE President made these remarks during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif.

The Prime Minister announced on Twitter the postponement of his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) scheduled for September 3.

Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif said the decision to postpone the visit was made jointly by both parties so that he could focus on ongoing rescue and relief activities in the flood-ravaged area.

He further said that Pakistan will always be grateful to “our brothers and sisters who have supported us in this challenge”.

The Prime Minister noted that the UAE has started delivering the first batch of relief supplies worth US$50 million to flood victims in Pakistan.

He said in a phone conversation last night with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who assured the UAE will continue to help the people of Pakistan affected by the floods.

Heavy rains triggered flash floods from the mountains in the north, destroying buildings and bridges and washing away roads and crops.

Pakistan estimates that the floods have affected more than 33 million people, or more than 15 percent of its population of 220 million.
