Abu Dhabi will host the High-level International Conference on Women, Peace and Security (ICWPS) from 8 to 10 September. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and the General Command. Women’s Union (GWU), UN Women, League of Arab States and Abu Dhabi Ports Group.
The event will be held under the patronage of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairman of the GWU, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and Supreme Chairman of the Family Development Foundation.
The purpose of the meeting was to review achievements and challenges related to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which emphasizes the importance of women’s equal participation in maintaining peace and security in conflict zones.

It also sought consensus on specific procedures for implementing the UAE National Action Plan. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said the UAE’s ICWPS organisation grew out of its belief in the vital role women play in various fields.
He acknowledged the UAE’s strong commitment to achieving gender equality and enhancing the role of women in society. International policymakers, senior officials, diplomats and advocates focusing on women, peace and security issues in the Arab region and worldwide will participate in the conference.
It will explore how to achieve the ambitious goals set by the United Nations to increase the participation of women in UN peacekeeping forces, such as increasing their share of troops in military missions to about 15 per cent and in units in police missions Raised to 20% by 2028.
