A teenager and two children have died after violence at a house in Dublin, police said.
The 18-year-old girl and her 8-year-old twin siblings – a boy and a girl – were taken by ambulance to Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) in Crumlin, but all three were later pronounced dead.
Police were called to a property on the Rosefield estate in Tara at about 12.30am on Sunday, describing the incident as violent, challenging and traumatic.
A 14-year-old boy was also taken from the scene to hospital with serious injuries, which they do not consider life-threatening.
A man in his 20s was later arrested at the scene by Garda Armed Support Forces.
He was held at Tallaght Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The child’s mother, who was not injured, was also taken to CHI and is currently receiving treatment.
Everyone involved is believed to know each other and police are not looking for anyone else involved in the incident, Gardai said.
The scene at the Rosefield estate remains cordoned off and a forensic examination will be carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau on Sunday.
An autopsy will also be performed.
Garda Siochana said a family liaison officer had been appointed and would continue to work with other state agencies to support those involved.
