A federal judge on Monday approved the appointment of an independent expert to investigate and review documents seized at the home of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the Prensa Latina Express, Judge Erin Cannon dismissed the Department of Justice (DOJ) objection and blocked prosecutors from using the documents until outside attorneys completed their research.
Given the circumstances, Judge Cannon asked the Justice Department and Trump’s lawyers to submit a list of special education candidate proposals by Friday.
The judge clarified that the intelligence community’s assessment of damage to document storage at the Palm Beach, Fla., mansion may continue.
It should be remembered that in late August, the Department of Justice issued a revised version of legal documents that allowed a search of former President Donald Trump’s Florida mansion.
In the roughly 40-page document, the FBI suspects the former president kept documents sensitive to national security at his residence.
Specifically, 15 boxes were found in Trump’s mansion, 14 of which contained classified documents, many of them top secret, interspersed with newspapers, magazines and various personal letters.
The judge also rejected the former president’s request to return the confiscated property.
In addition, the confiscated boxes contained 184 classified documents.
Of these, 67 were marked classified; 92, as classified, and 25, as top secret.
Trump has the documents despite repeated requests from agencies including the National Archives to replace the president’s records under federal law.
