UAE’s new visa rules modernize work

[ad_1]

As the world recovers from Covid-19 and its devastating effects, there are also lessons to be learned and retained. One issue that has drawn widespread attention is what the pandemic has taught us about work. Norms are broken. Remote work showed its great potential, but suddenly it was stripped away, and so was the old collaborative environment of the office.

The principle that ties all these findings together is the importance of flexibility. This also applies to external work. Forced to stay at home, families are closer together, well-being is prioritized, and life is as stable as possible amid this uncertainty. Many are understandably keen to keep these new arrangements.

The UAE’s economy is an ideal place to implement this flexibility. Since its establishment in 1971, the UAE has built a reputation for welcoming the world and its creativity. This openness and dynamism is an economic necessity as well as a cultural characteristic. From the hydrocarbon industry to tourism, the UAE will always harness the contributions of many people of different talents to realise its enormous economic potential.

How the government handles this is an evolving process that has undergone particular revisions in recent years. The new visa rules, which came into effect on Monday, are yet another sign that the UAE is still bracing for more foreign workers, and more importantly, for longer.

Immigration law has undergone broader changes over the past few years. In 2020, the Golden Visa was introduced, designed to allow skilled foreigners to live, work and study in the UAE without a state sponsor. It also gives the recipient the right to 100% ownership of the business in mainland UAE. They are valid for 10 years and are awarded to persons deemed particularly important by the authorities. A recent example includes healthcare workers serving during the pandemic.

In June, new labor laws allowed workers to stay in the country longer after terminating their employment. Former employees will now have up to 180 days to find a job before their visa expires.

Monday’s news is equally important. green visa Now applies to skilled workers, defined as those earning more than Dh15,000 per month and possessing a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. The biggest benefit is the five-year residency, which will allow for more flexible work, especially for freelancers, and create more investment in the UAE economy. For example, more certainty makes buying property more attractive.

The new visa recognises that maintaining a vibrant foreign workforce goes beyond just working conditions. It also gives the holder the right to bring first-degree relatives into the country throughout their stay. Emily RobertsThe chief consultant of Dubai recruitment agency Genie told National That: “One of the main benefits of a green visa is that it’s good for families, as the sponsorship period for male dependents will be extended to 25 years old, which was previously limited to 18 years old.”

With the UAE rapidly reopening after the pandemic, new employment laws are being developed to support this trend and make it as effective as possible. If programs like the Golden Visa can attract a smaller, more targeted group of people in what the government sees as a key industry, the new green visa is more about letting the immigration process and vibrant economy run its course, in this country has been very effective throughout its history, and has not lost sight of the importance of well-being in the process.
