UAE announces three days of mourning on death of Queen Elizabeth II

The UAE announced that from Friday, flags from the public and private sectors, as well as the country’s embassies abroad, will be flown at half-mast for three days in mourning Queen Elizabeth II dies.

The presidential court said in a statement that the flag will be flown at half-staff in three days, ending next Monday, September 12, according to state news agency WAM.

The Court expresses its sincere condolences to King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Royal Family and the British people on the passing of Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Elizabeth died at her home in Scotland on Thursday at the age of 96. The world’s oldest and longest-reigning head of state succeeded her father, King George VI, on February 6, 1952, when she was just 25 years old.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed offered his condolences to the British royal family on Thursday, tweeting: “My sincere condolences to the family of Queen Elizabeth II and the British people. Her Majesty is of the UAE. A close friend and a beloved and respected leader whose long reign was marked by dignity, compassion and a tireless commitment to the service of her country.”

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also tweeted his condolences, saying: “We join the world in mourning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who represented the best qualities of the country and its people. A global icon. Her incredible life of service and responsibility to Britain is unparalleled in our modern world.”
