Kizad, part of AD Ports Group Economic Cities and Free Zones, has signed a lease agreement with NWTN to build an electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in Abu Dhabi to meet the growing demand for sustainable transport options.
Scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2022, the plant will be able to assemble 10,000 electric vehicles per year in the UAE and the wider regional market.
Under the agreement, NWTN plans to initially operate a 25,000-square-meter manufacturing, R&D, vehicle testing and logistics facility built by Kizad with an annual capacity of 5,000-10,000 units for the assembly of semi-disassembled (SKD) electric vehicles. In the second phase, NWTN plans to launch several new electric vehicle models and expand production capacity to 50,000 vehicles per year.

NWTN, a green mobility technology company founded in 2016 and headquartered in the UAE, aims to produce smart passenger vehicles (SPVs) that deploy artificial intelligence technology and personalize the passenger experience.
A signing ceremony was held in Kizad to mark the occasion and showcase NWTN’s innovative range of electric vehicles.
The announcement, which will be Abu Dhabi’s first electric vehicle assembly facility, follows the recent regulatory update issued by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Energy (DoE) aimed at accelerating the development of electric vehicle infrastructure as part of Abu Dhabi’s Low Emission Vehicle Strategy.

The new production facility also aligns well with the UAE’s agenda to achieve zero emissions by 2050, as it will strengthen industry expertise and increase the supply of low-emission vehicles in the UAE.
