The founder of a UAE business group that recently set up a film production company in India said the investment climate and trade relationship between the UAE and India has never been better. “What we’ve done is simply a reflection of the increased cooperation between the two countries and a due respect for the vision of our leaders.”
Dubai-based Kalandoor Group launched Kalandoor Entertainments in early 2022 and already has two Malayalam feature films on the chopping block.
The first, Nalla Samayam (Perfect Timing) is a Malayalam-language thriller, announced in mid-June, and is currently filming in Guruvayoor and Thrissur. Centered on overnight events, the film will feature four newcomers as female leads and actor Irshad Ali as the male lead. Director Omar Lulu is best known for his two earlier films, Oru Adaar Love and Dhamaka, which also marked his debut as a music director in this film. He recorded his first song with singer Abhaya Hiranmayi at the launch. Sinu Sidharth will use the camera for Nalla Samayam.
Kalandoor Entertainments’ second installment, announced in early August, will be directed by Nadirshah as the seventh installment of the hit. The untitled film is based on a thriller-comedy script by popular writing duo Mohammed Raffi, and the newcomer will star alongside better-known stars. Filming is scheduled to begin in January 2023.
The founder and chairman of Kalandoor said the establishment of the film production company is part of the group’s diversification strategy to reduce overall risk, maximize returns and ensure sustainability.
He said the favourable investment climate and strengthened relationship between the UAE and India prompted him to act quickly. “In our group of companies, we are always looking for opportunities to enter new industries and new markets. When this opportunity arises, we evaluate it and calculate it.”
He noted that the habits and choices of the film world and of film-loving audiences around the world are changing rapidly. “We intend to measure the preferences of Indian consumers and the wider Indian diaspora for new methods of content consumption and content distribution.
“Kalandoor Entertainments embraces change. We want to empower discerning audiences to watch and watch more movies, no matter where they live in the world,” he said.
“We will adapt our strategy to changing emotions while working with professionals and entertainers from all walks of life.”
Headquartered in Kochi, the commercial capital of Kerala, Kalandoor Entertainments is also the center of the world-renowned Malayalam film industry, with numerous studios, production and post-production facilities, and a wide variety of outdoor venues. Malayalam movies are known for their realistic storylines, dramatic actors and stunning cinematography.
“As with everything we do, we have built in the sustainability valve, and in this case, our focus is on new talent. In an industry where nepotism is rife, we want to provide new talent for young talent in every field. opportunities,” he said from his office in Dubai Investment Park, the headquarters of the Kalandoor Group.
“On the one hand it is cost-effective and stress-free, on the other it promotes social values and community relationships. It may be show business, but we cannot ignore the sustainability factor.”
