Sheikh Mohammed Bin Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan attended the Arab Culture Guide 2022 award ceremony under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence.

The UAE won the Excellence in Museum and Cultural Guidance Award (institutions and ministries category), and Palestine took first place in the Museum and Archaeological Site Award.

The event was held at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi on 9 September and was attended by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Foreign Affairs Adviser, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth and National Council for Education, Culture and Science Chairman; and Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

Launched by ALECSO Cultural Ambassador Sheikha Alyazia Bint Nahyan Al Nahyan in collaboration with ALECSO and the Organization of Arab Museums, the theme is “History is our gateway to the future”. Also present at the event were Yacoub Al Hosani, Assistant Minister for International Organizational Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Ech Cherki Dahmali, Chairman of the Arab Organization of Museums and member of the Advisory Council of the International Council of Museums; and Dean Phelus, Senior Director, Special Projects, American Alliance of Museums.

Noura Al Kaabi said: “At the beginning of my speech, I would like to thank Cultural Ambassador Sheikha Alyazia Bint Nahyan Al Nahyan for launching the Arab Culture Guide Project. Preserving and passing on the legacy of the past to future generations is what we do to create a better tomorrow Pillars, past and future generations, and cultures complement each other.”

Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar said: “First of all, I am delighted to thank the United Arab Emirates for celebrating the Cultural Guide Project Competition on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Youth and ALECSO Cultural Ambassador Sheikha Alyazia Bint Nahyan Al Nahyan. Like success, we are determined to succeed in the other activities of the ALECSO Arab Cultural Ambassadors programme. Ech Cherki Dahmali said, “I believe that the first round of the Arabic Culture Guide program will provide a solid foundation and an essential component for the continuation of the program by organizing other courses.” “

Dean Phelus said: “We know that museums and cultural heritage are many things: places of knowledge and inspiration, sources of national pride, important partners in our society, stewards of a common heritage that showcases the greatest of humanity’s Achievement and most precious treasure.”

Awards for Excellence in Museum and Cultural Directing (for institutions and ministries):

1st Prize Winner: Ministry of Culture and Youth, Ministry of Heritage and Arts, Department of Cultural Heritage, UAE, received by Asma Al-Mannai, Director of Antiquities Division, Ministry of Culture and Youth; 2nd Prize: Culture and Antiquities Authority, Ministry of Museums and Antiquities, Bahrain, Interviewed by Fadwa Ibrahim, Director of Customer Service, 3rd place: Qatar Museums Authority.

Awards for Excellence in Museum and Cultural Directing (Museums and Archaeological Sites):

1st Prize Winner: Archaeological Museum of Sebastia, Palestine, received by Feras Aqel, Director General of Museums of the Ministry of Tourism; 2nd Prize: Traditional Heritage Museum of Djerba from Tunisia, received by Museum Director Sonia Alaoui; 3rd Prize : At the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdallah Museum in Essaouira, Morocco, received by museum director Ghita Rabouli.

Recognition of Excellence in Museum and Cultural Guidance (recognizing unique entries):

Mariam Al Raeisi, Director, Natural History Museum, Oman; Chadia Khalafallah, National Public Museum, Setif, Algeria, and Riyad Bakaroum, Mukalla Museum, Yemen.

Sustainable Ideas and Project Culture Guide Competition:

1st Prize Winner: Ezzedine Hajjaj from Sudan, for a project to develop interactive structures for Arab museums;

Second winner: Layla Salih from Iraq for the Syrian Cultural Heritage project in partnership with Baghdida Museum, and Sumaya Bejaoui from Tunisia for the Mobile Cultural Guide project.

The best Arabic restorer is awarded to Eng, an archaeological restorer specializing in architecture and activities. Faisal Farhan from Iraq. The pioneers of media and cultural direction were also honored by Hamad Al Kaabi, editor-in-chief of Al Ittihad newspaper. The award was accepted by Abdul Raheem Al Naqbi of Al Ittihad. Other honorees were Ali Al-Salloum, cultural advisor, founder of Ask Ali and host of the “Droob” program; Sudanese archaeologist Dr. Mustafa Al-Sharif; and Dr. Eid Al Yahya, Saudi researcher, author and “retrospective” TV presenter of the Arabian Footprints series; Maya Hatahet, Senior Producer of the Al Arabiya News Channel, producer of the TV series “Tracing the Arabian Footprints”; and Laila Al-Faddagh, Director of the National Museum of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

A visual feature of the Arab Culture Guide programme was also screened. The ceremony concluded with a musical performance by the Egyptian Warsha troupe, Al Sira Al Hilalia. Then visit Qasr Al Watan and Palace in Motion light and sound show. The Arabian Culture Guide program event will conclude in December 2022 with an interactive tour of the award-winning museum.
