TOKYO: Egyptian Ambassador Mohammad Abu Bakr paid a courtesy call to Japanese Foreign Minister Kei Takagi on Tuesday, and expressed his willingness to continue promoting relations between the two countries in the fields of education, economy and culture.
Ambassador Abu Bakr congratulated Takagi on his appointment as Deputy Foreign Minister.
Takagi welcomed Ambassador Abu Bakr’s visit and looked forward to the cooperation between the two countries at COP27, which will be held in Egypt in November.
He also has high hopes for the introduction of Japanese-style education in Egypt. Egypt is the first country in the world to adopt an integral part of Japanese education throughout its school system under the Egypt-Japan Education Partnership managed by Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Egyptian education authorities see tokkatsu (extracurricular activities aimed at promoting the well-rounded development of children) in Japanese elementary schools as a way to develop well-rounded individuals in Egypt.
Takagi is also looking forward to the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is partly funded by Japan, the ministry said.
