UAE ambassador meets Iranian foreign minister after resumption of diplomatic work

[ad_1]

TEHRAN – UAE Ambassador Saif al-Zaabi has resumed diplomatic activities in Iran after a six-year hiatus after meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian.

In a report on its website, the foreign ministry said that during the meeting, Amir Abdullahian said that Iran’s neighbor policy centers on developing relations with all its neighbors, including the United Arab Emirates. .

The foreign minister also insisted on the need for cooperation among regional countries aimed at promoting security and stability.

Amir Abdullahian also said that it is necessary to tap the existing potential, develop bilateral relations, establish a joint high-level committee committee, regulate consular relations, and promote the activities of Iranian educational and health institutions in the UAE.

Ambassador Al Zaabi expressed his pleasure at his return to Iran. He also said that the huge economic and commercial potential of the two countries is an important cornerstone for strengthening bilateral relations.

The ambassador also briefed the Iranian Foreign Minister on the views of senior UAE officials on the establishment of friendly relations and mutual visits between the two countries.

The UAE recalled its ambassador in 2016 after Saudi Arabia decided to cut ties with Iran following protests in Tehran, after the country executed an influential Shiite cleric and dozens of other pro-democracy activists. Demonstrators stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran.

Anwar Gargash, the UAE’s presidential diplomatic adviser, said in August that the decision to send the ambassador back to Iran was in line with Abu Dhabi’s regional positioning to “rebuild bridges” and strengthen ties.

Gargash wrote on his Twitter account: “The decision of the wise leadership to repatriate the country’s ambassador to Tehran is in line with the UAE’s regional orientation of restoring bridges, strengthening relations, maximizing common ground and building on this create an atmosphere of trust, understanding and cooperation.”, according to Hoshyar Pakistan.

Gargash added: “We strongly believe that Arab and regional work and coordination are necessary for a stable region and a prosperous future.”

In August, Kuwait also elevated diplomatic relations with Iran to the ambassadorial level after more than six years.
