Dubai ruler highlights ‘important role’ played by late monarch in supporting and cementing deep bond between two countries

The UAE’s vice-president met King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London on Sunday and expressed condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

During the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, highlighted the Queen’s “important role” in supporting and strengthening the deep bond between the UAE and the UK In all fields.

“The historical ties between the two countries will continue to deepen and strengthen, serving the two peoples and enhancing regional and international security, stability and peace,” he said.

The UAE’s vice-president was among a number of heads of state, world leaders and royals around the world who travelled to London to pay their respects to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, who died on September 8 at the age of 96.

UAE Presidents His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid led the tribute as the country mourned the passing of the Queen on September 8. The UAE has declared a three-day mourning period as a sign of respect. Until September 12, flags in the UAE and at the country’s embassies abroad were flown at half mast.

Emirati leaders, including some rulers and crown princes, visited the British mission in the country to pay their respects.

Residents line up to lay flowers at Dubai’s floating hotel QE2 to commemorate the Queen’s decades of service.

The country’s landmarks, including the Burj Khalifa, were lit up with messages paying tribute to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. Some schools in the country will disperse students early tomorrow to allow the campus community to watch televised services.

Queen Elizabeth’s body has been laid in historic Westminster Hall since Wednesday, and people from all walks of life from across the UK and overseas have lined up for hours to flow through her with constant emotion coffin.
