Covid-19: As Melbourne races to track outbreak, Sydney releases new virus record-News

[ad_1]

Health Minister Brad Hazzard expressed frustration that people ignored the lockdown restrictions.

New South Wales, Australia, reported another record day of Covid-19 cases on Saturday as authorities in Melbourne, the country’s second largest city, are eager to trace the source of the outbreak.

On Saturday, Australia’s three largest cities were under lockdown, and New South Wales recorded 319 community infections and 5 deaths — a record of cases for the third consecutive day.

Although Sydney has entered its seventh week of lockdown, as the virus continues to spread across Sydney’s vast suburbs, State Health Secretary Brad Hazzard expressed disappointment that people seemed to ignore restrictions and urged residents to stay. Home.

Hazard told the media: “This is the most important thing you can do for all of us and yourself to ensure that we defeat this delta virus that is causing serious damage all over the world.”

He also announced that Armidale, about 6 hours northwest of Sydney, will join about 60% of Australia’s 25 million residents.

Contact tracing officers in Melbourne, Victoria, resumed lockdown on Thursday for the sixth time since the pandemic began, but are still trying to trace the source of the outbreak.

State Governor Daniel Andrews said when announcing 29 new cases of the virus: “It is very, very important to see so many cases… We don’t know where these two outbreaks started.”

As the city of Brisbane will end its lockdown on Sunday, health officials urge people not to become complacent until the restrictions are relaxed.

Inadequate supplies and vaccine indecision hinder Australian immunization efforts, with only more than 20% of the population fully vaccinated.

In the past 18 months, the country has managed to avoid the worst pandemic, but due to lockdown efforts to eliminate highly infected Delta variants, the effectiveness of its “zero coronavirus” policy has been questioned.
