A simulation of the UAE’s planned settlement on Mars will be built in the Metaverse.
This Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre Helping Bedu, a Web3 technology company in Dubai, design a simulation.
The UAE aims to establish settlements on the red planet by 2117, but the main goal of the project is to help create jobs in the country and inspire more young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The space center will share data and information about space and Mars to help create simulations.
“As we set our sights on more challenging destinations for human and robotic exploration, innovative ideas and future thinking are critical to helping us reach new milestones,” said Adnan Al Rais, Mars 2117 Program Manager.
“Concepts like this will be supported by Mbrsc as we believe it will help us expand the scope of even greater possibilities.”
The space center is also building the research facility Mars Science City in Dubai.
The AED500 million project will support research on the red planet and help with simulation missions – field tests replicating deep space travel.
Amin Al Zarouni, CEO of Bedu, said the UAE is leading the way in space.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Mbrsc and honored to be able to capture this fascinating interstellar adventure using the latest and greatest technology on Earth,” he said.
“Through 2117, we aspire to deliver a virtual world driven entirely by experience, focused on creating endless opportunities for individuals and organizations.”
The space center supports international efforts to put astronauts on the moon and on to Mars.
It has been involved in simulation missions to help scientists conduct research, including the psychological and physical effects of long-term flight on humans.
Emirati mechanical engineer Saleh Al Ameri was the first Arab astronaut to simulate.
He and five other crew members spent eight months in a mock facility in Russia.
The experiments are part of a five-year research program by the Russian Institute of Biomedical Problems and NASA’s Human Research Program.
The simulation facility in the UAE will make it easier for Emirati volunteers to train in this environment.
No timeline has been revealed for the completion of the Mars 2117 simulation in the Metaverse.
