ENEC strengthens UAE-French cooperation in nuclear energy with new E-Fusion 2022

Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSFN (French Nuclear Cluster) at the fifth E-Fusion. The event brings together the UAE and French nuclear sectors to further develop and strengthen their cooperation to support the development of the global nuclear supply chain. E-Fusion is organized by ENEC in cooperation with Business France and CSFN, the national agencies that support the international development of the French economy.

The new Memorandum of Understanding between ENEC and CSFN will focus on strengthening the local supply chain of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme and the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the future, increasing local manufacturing and supply of components and equipment, and promoting greater sharing of knowledge, skills and expertise.

“France is a leader in nuclear energy, and the UAE has been significantly expanding its capabilities in this field. E-Fusion is a very important initiative in this regard. French expertise and expertise are recognized worldwide, The importance of the delegation of French companies travelling from France to this event is yet another clear demonstration of the growing potential between our two countries,” said His Excellency Xavier Chatel, Ambassador of France to the UAE.

His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO of ENEC, commented: “International cooperation has been an important commitment for us since the launch of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear energy programme. Working together with key players, the Barakah nuclear power plant has been recognized as the global benchmark for civil nuclear energy from a project management, efficiency and cost-effectiveness perspective. The development of the UAE’s high-tech nuclear supply chain is contributing to the nation’s intellectual wealth and industrialization strategy contribute. We look forward to continuing to work with organisations from responsible countries, including French businesses that have been key partners for many years. ”

Hervé Maillart, Chief Coordinator of the French Nuclear Industry, commented: “Since the launch of E-Fusion in 2019, the French nuclear industry has been building a successful partnership with the United Arab Emirates. E-Fusion is now entering a new dynamic, with the UAE and Co-governance between France. This cooperation aims to create opportunities for our two countries to contribute to a carbon-neutral future”.

Over 100 industry professionals participated in E-Fusion, including French companies specializing in engineering, safety, radiation protection, fuel cycle management and environmental monitoring. The event involved a meeting between the French company ENEC and its joint venture operating and maintenance subsidiary Nawah Energy, to further develop the partnership and create new synergies and opportunities.

At the Barakah plant, units 1 and 2 are both in commercial operation, providing an adequate source of safe, clean and reliable power every minute of every day. Unit 3 is nearing start-up, while Unit 4 is in the final stages of commissioning before construction is complete. The plant is a catalyst for innovation and R&D in areas such as clean hydrogen and SMR development to foster sustainable growth and help combat climate change, as part of the UAE’s strategy to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
