The Dubai Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) built a 170-meter-long bridge at the intersection of Nad Al Sheba and Dubai-Al Ain Roads, with two lanes in each direction. The bridge provides services to and from Dubai-Al Ain Road, which leads to Nad Al Sheba, Maidan and nearby development projects.

The construction of the Nad Al Sheba overpass is part of the Dubai-Al Ain highway improvement project currently undertaken by RTA. It involves building six key intersections along the road and widening each direction from 3 lanes to 6 lanes. The project extends from the junction of Dubai-Al Ain Road and Emirates Road to the intersection of Bu Kadra-Ras Al Khor, with a total length of 17 kilometers.

“The new bridge can pass 6600 cars in both directions per hour. It shortens the travel time at the intersection of Nad Al Sheba Street and Dubai-Al Ain Road from 104 seconds to 13 seconds, a reduction of 88%. “RTA has completed 70% of the entire Dubai-Al Ain Road development project. This is one of the largest road infrastructure projects currently undertaken by RTA and will benefit approximately 1.5 million people. After completion, the project will help Smooth traffic, while improving the connection with Ras Al Khor Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Emirates Road, in addition to serving the existing and future projects on both sides of the strait in Dubai-Al Ain Road. RTA previously built a ramp at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road to allow traffic to pass in all directions, and it is now open to traffic. The main bridge is currently being constructed at the same intersection. In addition to completing the junction of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road, turns are also provided in all other directions. The existing ramp will be upgraded to serve inbound traffic in the direction of Dubai from the Dubailand Residence Complex westward to Dubai-Al Ain Road. A new ramp will be constructed to serve transportation from Dubai north to Academic City and Dubai Silicon Oasis. Service roads will be built on both sides of the road and turned to serve other sports and development projects. These projects are expected to be completed in the second half of next year.

The project includes improving Al Meydan Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road and connecting them to Al Manama Road. A four-lane bridge in each direction will be constructed to connect Al Manama Road and Al Meydan Road. The existing bridges on Al Meydan Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road will be upgraded to serve the Meydan development project.

The Dubai-Al Ain road improvement project also includes the construction of auxiliary roads on both sides of the road to improve safety. The six intersections of the project will help smooth traffic and serve the residential communities on both sides of the road such as Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Park Residential District, Liwan, Meydan and Dubai Design District. The total length of the six intersections of the project is 6,600 meters, and the span of all bridges is 4,900 meters. The project includes improving the intersections with Emirates Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Road, Nad Al Sheba, Al Meydan and Ras Al Khor. It also includes improving the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, which was opened last year, and can pass 36,000 vehicles per hour in all directions, and improving Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road from Qusay Traffic flow in the direction of Sri Lanka Ain.

The intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road also includes the construction of four 2-lane ramps extending 2,600 meters to ensure smooth traffic in all directions at the intersection. The old bridge on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road has been improved. The Dubai-Al Ain Road has been widened from 3 lanes in each direction to 6 lanes, and auxiliary roads have been built on both sides of the road. A 220-meter-long two bridges were built at the junction of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road to provide U-turn functions for motorists from Dubai.
