“As a country committed to inclusion, tolerance and respect for all faiths, the UAE warmly welcomes the construction of the Church’s first temple in the Middle East in Dubai,” said His Excellency Mansour Abu Hur. “My visit to the London Temple of England today provides a fantastic opportunity to discuss plans for this exciting project and engage in insightful interfaith dialogue with Elder Perkins and other Latter-day Saints.”
At the invitation of the Dubai government, Dubai’s Temple of the Future announced the construction of this sacred building in April 2020. This will be the Church’s first temple in the Middle East, serving 8,000 Latter-day Saints in two Gulf States stakes (dioceses) and other Church members in neighboring countries. The new temple will be built on Dubai Expo City.
Speaking of Elder Perkins observed that Ambassador Mansour Abuhur visited the English Temple in London, “Ambassador Abu Hur’s diplomacy and focus on achieving the UAE’s goals of freedom of worship and religious acceptance will serve his country well. The application of these noble values will certainly be recognised by the international community.”
Elder Perkins presents ambassadors with gifts reflecting the Church’s diplomatic outreach work in London as “Friends of Nations” and a book on How Latter-day Saints View the Temple as a sanctuary of holiness and peace.Ambassadors also received Arabic and English copies of recent Church publications “Muslims and Latter-day Saints.”
