ABU DHABI, 23rd September, 2022 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the Ministry of Community Development, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and fitness app STEPPI, has launched an interactive challenge, Designed to encourage individuals to collectively walk one billion steps.
This challenge must be completed by the end of the 9th International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH) Congress to be held in Abu Dhabi.
Consistent with ISPAH’s theme of “Making Every Step Count”, the challenge will run for six weeks from September 23 to October 26 and will bring together thousands of people from the wider local community to help achieve goals and encourage people to more positive.
The challenge is designed to attract the participation of more than 1,000 visitors from around the world who will attend the 9th edition of the Congress, which will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 23rd to 26th October.
People can download the free STEPPI app and track their progress on a dedicated website that has a real-time counter showing the cumulative steps taken. It will also include advice on different activities that individuals can take to take as many steps as possible for the chance to enter a draw to win an Etihad Airways ticket.
Matar Al Nuaimi, Director General of ADPHC, said: “As Abu Dhabi prepares to host the International Congress of Physical Activity and Health Associations in October, this is an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to not only strengthen and participate, but also through regular Exercise takes as many steps as possible while also showing the world how active our community is across the country.”
Professor Jasper Schipperijn, President of the International Association for Physical Activity and Health, said: “This is a very exciting initiative to involve all communities in the preparations for this important congress and to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity. ”
The ISPAH Congress is the world’s largest physical activity and health congress and is widely regarded as the world’s leading association of researchers, experts and practitioners dedicated to promoting physical activity throughout life.
