UAE ambassador visits London temple in front of Dubai temple

Looking at the future temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the United Arab Emirates, an ambassador from the country met with a church leader at the London England Temple to learn more about the purpose of the temple.

Moderated by HE Mansoor Abulhoul, UAE Ambassador to the UK Elder Anthony B. PerkinsOn Tuesday 20 September, on the grounds of the London Temple in Surrey, one of Surrey’s seventy generals and president of the Church’s Middle East/North Africa region, about 25 miles (40 km) south of its namesake city .

Together with his wife, Sister Christine Perkins, Elder Perkins gave the ambassador a personal tour of the temple grounds, taking time at the Temple Arrival Center to introduce the importance of the temple and ordinances to the Church and its members As well as the historical London Temple.

He also provided an update on the Dubai United Arab Emirates Temple, which is hosted by President Russell Nelson exist April 2020 General Conference and is in the planning and development stage. The announcement follows an invitation from the Dubai government to build the structure, which is planned for Expo City Dubai, but no specific site location has been identified.

“As a country committed to inclusion, tolerance and respect for all faiths, the UAE warmly welcomes the construction of the Church’s first temple in the Middle East in Dubai,” Abulhoul said. “My visit to the London Temple of England today provides a fantastic opportunity to discuss plans for this exciting project and engage in insightful interfaith dialogue with Elder Perkins and other Latter-day Saints.”

The temple will serve 8,000 Latter-day Saints in two stakes in the Gulf States, as well as Church members in other countries in the region.

Elder Perkins said: “Ambassador Abu Hur’s diplomacy and focus on achieving the UAE’s goals of freedom of worship and religious acceptance will serve his country well. The international community will certainly recognize the application of these noble values.”

The visit continued the Church’s “Friends of Nations” diplomatic outreach in London, with Elder Perkins offering several gifts to the ambassador, including a book on temples as holy and peaceful places, and the Church’s recent publication of Arabic and English copies, “Muslims and Latter-day Saints: Faith, Values, and Lifestyle.”
