Abu Dhabi’s Torrent continues title race

[ad_1]

SAN NAZARO: Abu Dhabi’s Sean Torrent took a step towards a third UIM F1H2O World Championship title today as Sharjah’s Ferdinand Zandbergen made a winning streak at the Italian Grand Prix An unforgettable victory.

Torrente’s third-place finish at San Nazaro is just behind teammate Thani Al Qemzi, meaning he is now 17 points clear of the Emiratis with two decisive rounds in Sharjah in December.

For the second time in 24 hours, the technically demanding Po circuit caused a series of casualties, with only eight of the 12 starters completing the 40-lap race.

podium position

Following a convincing victory at yesterday’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Torrent had to take advantage of him after losing a spot in a six-boat qualifying penalty shootout earlier in the day All the experience grabs the podium position.

Zandbergen, in his F1H2O rookie season, took his first pole position in impressive style and went on to put together another solid performance to claim his maiden Grand Prix victory.

Al Qemzi’s second place means the seasoned Emirati driver still has his hopes of a first individual drivers’ title alive, and his partnership with Torrente appears to have brought Abu Dhabi a fifth consecutive constructors’ title.

Meanwhile, Sweden’s defending champion Jonas Andersson kept his hopes alive with a fourth-place finish as a tight Grand Prix double-header came to a close.

However, he is now 21 points behind Torrente in third, with an impressive Zandbergen climbing to fourth underlining his challenge.

Fresh off a fine win on Saturday, Torrente had earlier maintained his momentum by winning today’s first qualifying round, with Al Qemzi taking the sixth-fastest lap.

season opener

After crashing after a mechanical exit as France led the season opener 24 hours ago, Sharjah’s Samiselio looked to have put all of that behind him as he initially produced his best in the second quarter. time.

But the Finnish driver made a spectacular exit when his boat suddenly rose to the surface and flipped 360 degrees. He was uninjured but was ruled out of the Grand Prix, although his consolation was to use the radio to guide teammate Zandbergen to success.

Portugal’s Duarte Benavente and Norway’s Marit Stromoy also did not start after yesterday’s accident, while Frenchman Peter Morin, Finns Alec Weckstrom and Kalle Viippo and Poland’s Bartek Marszalek missed the finish.

2022 UIM F1H2O World Championship leading position (tentative):

1. Shaun Torrente (UAE) 52 points

2. Thani Al Qemzi (UAE) 35 points

3. Jonas Anderson (Sweden) 31 points

4. Ferdinand Zandbergen (NED) 27 points

5. Peter Morin (FRA) 21

6. Alec Weckstrom (FIN) 21 points
