Alexis “Lex” Rocha (20-1, 13 KOs), who will face Zepeda on the undercard at Diaz, Jr., also participates in the media roundtable, will be in a 10-welterweight bout to end Defend his NABO title.
Here’s what the fighters had to say:
Joseph “Jojo” Diaz, Jr. – Former IBF Super Featherweight Champion:
“I’m so excited because I know William Zepeda is a young, hungry fighter with a 26-0 record with 23 knockouts and I know he’s going to give it his all.
“This fight represents everything in my career right now. I’m beating Devin Haney. Unfortunately, the fight didn’t go the way I hoped it would.
“I’m ready to show everyone why I’m considered one of the best fighters in the world.
“I think William Zepeda is a one-dimensional fighter who just puts a lot of pressure. If he thinks I’m going to be the kind of guy who’s going to back off and dodge any kind of smoke, he’s going to catch me [expletive] up. I would throw as much as I could there and he was throwing.
“On October 29, he’ll be the living dog there. I’m going to be the living dog. But I’ll be victorious.”
William “Shrimp” Zepeda – lightweight contender:
“I’m so excited and fulfilled to be able to play a great fighter against another great fighter.
“If I beat JoJo, it will be a great way for people to know me – against a great opponent who was a world champion. They will know that ‘El Camarón’ is the best.
“JoJo is an aggressive and dangerous fighter with a lot of experience. But I’ll keep working hard to prepare and train. This department is a very engaging and stacked one. We all know we’re all talented.”
ALEXIS “LEX” ROCHA – Nabo Welterweight Champion:
“I’m very humbled and grateful for the Mexican-American fan base behind me.
“That’s what I want in my life; the fans, the people and the public are what I want. All these years of grinding since I was twelve. I gave up a lot and scared a lot.
“People can say anything about Santa Ana, but if you go to the diamond of the dirt, there are hardworking people there — like me. We’re trying to do that and put our city on the map It’s an honor to be from Santa Ana.
“Boxing helped me out of danger. I hung out with the wrong kids at school and I knew if I went out with them at night, I was going to get nowhere. Boxing really saved me.”
GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ – Unbeaten, Former WBO Super Middleweight World Champion:
“I am very grateful to be able to have this fight with Bivol, especially since I am so well prepared for it. The whole world will see Zurdo Ramirez and all the potential I have.
“At the end of the day, it’s only me, he [Dmitry Bivol] and the referee in the ring. Once he was in the ring with me, no one could help him.
“A man’s toughest fight is with himself. Stand up and stay focused, not just in boxing, but in life.”
