Yamato Nishikawa signs with UFC, will debut in Abu Dhabi

[ad_1]

Yamato Nishikawa is reportedly rewarded with a 14-game winning streak with his UFC contract. The experienced 19-year-old has been booked to take on Magomed Mustafayev in Abu Dhabi on October 22.

Nishikawa (21-6-3) has not lost a game since 2018. A veteran of 30 MMA fights, he has more experience than his years and also fights under Muay Thai rules.

Nishikawa made his last appearance at Shooto 0919 last weekend, winning a unanimous decision over Shigeaki Kusayanagi. Competing at 155 pounds for most of his career, the teenager has fought at welterweight in his last few bouts.

At UFC 280, he will face Mustafaev (14-4), who has been on the UFC roster since 2015 but has only fought in the Octagon five times. He reportedly missed nearly three years after suffering an arm injury and was last seen in a UFC loss to Brad Riddle on ESPN+26.

empty belt

As previously announced, the event will headline a featherweight title fight with the former champion Charles Oliveira challenges Islamic Makhachev Empty band.

Oliveira lost the title after a slight weightlessness at UFC 274. He weighed just 0.5 lb and extended his winning streak to 11 games by defeating Justin Gaetje in the opening round.

Makhachev entered the game with a ten-game winning streak. He is a protégé of Khabib Nurmagomedov and would love to follow in his mentor’s footsteps and bring the UFC lightweight belt back to Dagestan.

grudge game

Other fights currently on the card include bantamweight bouts Between Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley. The Russian is a former bantamweight champion and this will be his third fight in Abu Dhabi.

Earlier this month, O’Malley fought Pedro Monholz in a no-fight bout at UFC 279. The popular American turned around quickly but arguably had the toughest test of his career against a former bantamweight champion.

Both went back and forth on social media, and it was definitely a fight:

former enemy

Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who lost to Mustafaev in 2014, will seek to continue his more famous cousin at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi legacy left. This is a sight of some of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s most famous victories.

But Nurmagomedov has achieved success in the recognized mixed martial arts competition, albeit not as successfully as his cousin. He will fight Jared Gooden at UFC 260.

Omargadzhiev is coming off the first loss of his entire career. He won 13 of 13 fights until a technical decision loss to Caio Borralho at UFC Vegas 51.

battle island

During the pandemic, the UFC declared Abu Dhabi a “fight island”, with 16 events held there. The country first hosted a card in 2010, but has become the destination of some of the biggest battles in recent years.

Some of the biggest UFC fights in recent years have been held in Abu Dhabi. Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor grabbed the headlines with several cards there.
