Al Ain: United Arab Emirates University and Abu Dhabi University held a technical seminar on the research directions of the two universities on September 16 at the UAE University campus in Al Ain, in the presence of staff and researchers from both universities , 2022. The workshop was one of the outcomes of a coordination meeting held at Abu Dhabi University in Al Ain in June, in the presence of officials from both universities. At the end of the workshop, they called for researchers to submit joint research on a topic of strategic priority.
Professor Ahmed Ali Murad, Deputy Provost for Research, said the UAE University emphasized the importance of partnerships and joint research collaborations with government entities and universities/international research institutes. The University prioritizes strategic partnerships with local universities in priority and important areas. The workshop is also considered to activate joint research collaborations in line with the University’s strategy of developing and establishing joint research relationships to enhance UAEU’s research and provide a creative and innovative academic environment.
He said the symposium focused on a range of research projects in the following areas: energy and water, artificial intelligence, software engineering, health sciences, economic and social issues, environmental science, materials science and manufacturing.
After the workshop, UAE University and Abu Dhabi University will submit joint research proposals, he said. The purpose of the initiative is to develop research collaborations between the two universities, increase knowledge, support the latest research techniques in areas of interest to both universities, and improve social well-being. He added that the review and selection of research proposals will take place annually, alternating between the University of the United Arab Emirates and the University of Abu Dhabi. The total number of accepted proposals will depend on the results of the external review, national research priority areas, and funding available to the two universities for the program. The final decision will be made by a joint committee of the two universities.
Professor Philip Hamill, Deputy Provost for Research and Academic Development, said: “The knowledge economy is built on research and innovation in a globally connected world. This workshop enables our faculty to make new connections, explore new ideas and opportunities for collaboration, This will generate the necessary intellectual capital to drive economic growth in the UAE.”
