Lubbock, Texas (press release) – Lubbock Entertainment/Performing Arts Association (LEPAA) board chairman Tim Collins will end his nearly ten-year term as board chairman in October . Collins will remain on the board and will continue to serve as an advisor to the executive team.
“I accepted the position of founding board chair in 2013 with a big dream and an equally daunting task of assembling a team of community members who would work to raise over $100 million to build the Buddy Hawley Performing Arts Hall and science,” Collins said. “The concert hall has been open for almost two years and has hosted performers like Bob Dylan, ZZ Top, Kristen Chenoweth, Joan Jett and of course all the great Broadway shows. The location of the hall is great Well, now is a good time for me to focus on other important aspects of my life.”
LEPAA board member and community volunteer Patty D’Alise wraps up Collins’ tenure. “After serving under Tim’s leadership, I can’t imagine anyone else in our community being able to steer this ship from an oft-talked-about dream to the fully completed Buddy Hawley Hall,” said D’Alise. “Tim is equally comfortable chairing board meetings, managing construction sites and speaking to community groups with enthusiasm and clarity of vision.
“It may be years before people realize his true gift to our community,” D’Alise continued. “Stolen from the oft-quoted speech; ‘The credit goes to the man who is really on the field, with dust and sweat on his face; whoever fights bravely, who makes mistakes, because there is no mistake without effort; but whoever really strives do these things.'”
Mark Bass of Pennington, Bass and Associates, a current board member, local business owner and community volunteer, will become LEPAA board chair in October.
“Tim Collins has given ten years of his life as founding chair of LEPAA and the planning, construction and opening of The Buddy Holly Hall,” Bass said. “His skills at every stage, his leadership of the LEPAA Board of Directors, and his work with our partners, donors, patrons and communities have had an impact on quality of life for generations to come.”
The LEPAA Founding Board was established in 2013 to raise funds and oversee construction of the state-of-the-art Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences. LEPAA is transitioning from a founding board to an operations-focused board.
Hall is privately funded by donations from foundations, individuals, and corporations; no taxes are used to fund this nonprofit. Additional funding is still required so that Buddy Holly Hall remains sustainable for generations to come.
“With the successful completion and opening of Buddy Holly Hall,” Bass said, “LEPAA will remain focused on our mission of building community through extraordinary experiences, creative collaboration, and inclusive arts, entertainment and education.
