Jaguar Land Rover unveils Future Skills programme

[ad_1]

Jaguar Land Rover has announced a global upskilling programme that seeks to train 29,000 people in connectivity and data capabilities over the next three years and support a rapid transition to electrification.

The company’s Future of Skills programme will attract more than 10,000 Jaguar Land Rover and licensed retailers in the UK, and almost 19,000 in other parts of the world, to be trained in skills critical to electrification, digitalisation and autonomous vehicles.

This underlines the company’s commitment to developing its engineering and manufacturing skills for the future and supporting Jaguar Land Rover’s goal of achieving net zero.

expand

Barbara Bergmeier, executive director of industrial operations at Jaguar Land Rover, commented: “Our portfolio electrification programme is in full swing and we are rapidly expanding our future skills training programmes to ensure we have the right people to deliver the world’s most coveted products. .Modern luxury electric car.

“Developing the skilled global workforce required to design, manufacture and maintain the vehicles of tomorrow is fundamental. I am proud to say that we are committed to helping fill the electrical and digital skills gap through a comprehensive global training programme that will provide the UK and electrified charging abroad.”

The Future Skills programme is key to the success of Jaguar Land Rover’s Reimagine strategy, which will see all Jaguar and Land Rover modern luxury vehicles offered in pure electric form by the end of the decade.

Electric Vehicle Training

About 80% of the nearly 1,300 Jaguar Land Rover franchised dealers around the world now offer electric vehicle repairs, so to address the skills gap, the company is ensuring that most repair technicians will be trained on electrification this year.

In addition to the technicians, JLR plans to retrain thousands of highly-skilled automotive engineers and production employees who previously worked on combustion engine vehicles, specializing in electrification, digitization and autonomous vehicle development.

As production of electric vehicles increases at the Jaguar Land Rover plant, plant employees at all levels will need to be trained to ensure they can safely work with the high-voltage systems of electric vehicles.

treated emissions

Jaguar Land Rover Chief Unit Engineer Karl ‘Freddy’ Gunnarsson was part of the Emissions After Treatment team and his first role was working on diesel catalytic converters. He joined the battery pack in January.

One aspect of the work is that Gunnarsson and his team are working to increase the energy density of Jaguar Land Rover batteries to maximize vehicle range. This is done in part by changing the battery format (to allow more cells to fit into the battery) and upgrading the battery chemistry.

He said: “The transition from internal combustion engines to electricity was fairly straightforward. Both required a good understanding of materials chemistry and I was able to devote about 30% of my time to independent study. Now, with electric vehicles, I can see The program’s longevity and how it supports the company’s Reimagine strategy.”

With an eye towards ensuring the next generation is also equipped with the skills of the future, the company is also strengthening its global apprenticeship programme by adding hundreds of apprenticeships to Jaguar Land Rover and retailers around the world. — arab trade news agency
