Johnson Controls, a global leader in smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, has received top recognition at the 4th UAE Energy Awards 2022 for significant energy savings at Dubai Airport.
The UAE Energy Award is an important regional award aimed primarily at encouraging the rational use of energy and resources, and highlighting best practices and pioneering work in energy efficiency, alternative energy, sustainability and protecting the environment.
A major player in the energy sector, Johnson Controls said it has conducted an in-depth energy audit and analysis in selected areas of operation at the Dubai Airport Central Utility Complex.
The Johnson Controls statement said the audit resulted in an energy performance contract that involved retrofitting chillers with medium-voltage variable speed drives to improve chiller efficiency.
In addition, it includes modifications to auxiliary equipment. In addition, the project involved the installation of a custom chiller manager application to run the chillers at higher efficiency based on dynamic airport operations.
Johnson Controls noted that the benchmark energy consumption at the Dubai Airport facility is close to 40.989 GWh per year. But following its key move, the guaranteed savings achieved is 11.9 GWh, which will help reduce CO2 emissions by 5,240 tonnes per year.

“This prestigious award is testament to our contribution to the region’s net zero goal and recognizes our leadership in delivering clean and efficient digital technologies to our customers,” he said.
Omar Bin Adai, Senior Vice President of Engineering Services at Dubai Airports, praised Johnson Controls for receiving the highest recognition, saying: “While Dubai Airports has been deeply involved in energy management and carbon footprint reduction efforts, we appreciate Johnson Controls’ expertise and efforts in implementing this energy saving measures to achieve the clean energy goals of Dubai and the UAE.”
“We would like to thank Dubai Airports for choosing us to complete this project,” said Ahmad Abuothman, general manager of Johnson Controls Building Technologies GCC. “We are delighted that our tireless efforts in energy efficiency have been successful. We have received such an important award.”
