- Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP 2022) will be held in Abu Dhabi from 7th to 11th December, both virtually and in-person
Abu Dhabi, UAE: NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), in collaboration with Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), will host the 2022 Empirical Methods Conference on Natural Language Processing (EMNLP) from December 7-11 ). The EMNLP, which held its first meeting in 1996, will offer the option of in-person or virtual participation.
EMNLP is the leading conference in natural language processing and artificial intelligence. Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a subfield of linguistics, computer science, and artificial intelligence that considers the interaction between computers and human language. The discipline helps machines process and understand human language so they can automate repetitive tasks. Everyday examples include machine translation, automatic summarization, and automatic spelling correction.
The local organizing committee will be co-chaired by Nizar Habash, professor and computer science program leader at NYU, and professor Eric Xing, chairman of MBZUAI.
Along with the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) conference, EMNLP is one of two major high-impact conferences for natural language processing research. EMNLP is organized by the ACL Special Interest Group on Linguistic Data (SIGDAT). According to Microsoft Academic, EMNLP is the 14th most-cited conference in computer science as of 2021.
EMNLP 2022 will include six tutorials and 22 workshops, including the 7th Arabic Natural Language Processing Workshop, the 13th International Workshop on Text Mining and Information Analysis for Health, and the 4th Financial Technology and Natural Language Processing Workshop meeting. Additionally, EMNLP 2022 will have two concurrent sessions on machine translation and computational natural language learning.
The conference has been sponsored by many high-level international companies such as Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, Baidu, and Microsoft. EMNLP 2022 was also generously supported by the Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Authority.
“Arabic presents a lot of challenges for natural language processing (NLP), so it’s very encouraging to see research in the region rising over the past decade,” Habash said. “This conference provides a unique opportunity for the UAE and the Arab world to showcase the important work we are doing in this field; to inspire local youth to engage in this science and to engage and engage with global talent; and to continue exploring this The possibilities of technology are endless.”
“Natural language processing research is an important part of the UAE ecosystem, which will help drive technological innovation,” Xing said. “As an emerging center for NLP research in the Middle East, we expect to have a significant impact given our capabilities and depth of talent, and co-hosting an event of this level underscores the importance of our contributions alongside our NYU colleagues.”
In addition to leveraging Abu Dhabi’s strong MICE infrastructure and capabilities, the conference received additional support from the Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau (ADCEB) under the Abu Dhabi Department of Tourism and Culture (DCT Abu Dhabi).
ADCEB offers Advantage Abu Dhabi 2.0, an enhanced funding program that provides event organizers with a range of support throughout the event planning cycle, including financial assistance and destination-driven value-added services.
DCT Abu Dhabi Mubarak Al Shamisi’s Director of Abu Dhabi Exhibitions said: “We are delighted to expand our support for EMNLP 2022 through the Advantage Abu Dhabi 2.0 programme. One of our goals when creating the programme was to engage with innovative partners An association of pioneering, forward-looking research and development hosts events that engage and enrich the social and economic development of our cities. This will surely help grow Abu as insights and improvements in natural language processing and artificial intelligence are shared at EMNLP 2022 Dhabi’s knowledge ecosystem and the attractiveness of a prominent destination for hosting professional scientific conferences. We look forward to welcoming conference speakers and participants to Abu Dhabi, and we hope they discover the variety our incredible destination has to offer An inspiring, restorative and exciting experience.”
EMNLP 2022 It will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from December 7th to 11th.
