Entertainment at the 50th annual Champaign County Historical Museum Oktoberfest on Sunday will have visitors banging their toes and singing along with musicians.
Robert Pollock opened the event with a cheerful sound from his 1903 Wurlitzer 125 Marching Band Organ. The organ was originally designed to be played in ice rinks and carousels. It has 101 wooden and brass pipes imitating an eight-piece band.
Rebuilt in 1984, the organ was brought to Oktoberfest by his father Clifford R. Pollock from 1985-1991 and his mother Mary Pollock from 1992-2016. Robert, who took over in 2017, is delighted to carry on the tradition of bringing music to Oktoberfest. Music will include polkas, waltzes and marches from the 1910s to 1940s. Special thanks to the Pollock family for providing us with 37 years of amazing music. Oktoberfest wouldn’t be the same without you.
Performing from noon to 1pm will be the R Tyme Group and the sounds of the 60s and 70s. Local guitarists Gary Markin and Tom Rich will keep the audience rocking. Don’t be surprised if more guitarists join it.
Entering at 1pm will be the Triad High School Band led by John Sharritts Director and Assistant Director Noah Floyd. The band will perform some routines that appear in the game.
“We’re delighted that the band is celebrating our 50th anniversary with us,” said event co-chair Sandy Gonzalez.
Tom Kushmaul will take the stage from 1:30-2:30pm, offering keyboards and vocals spanning decades of ragtime, polka, pop standards and jazz. A professional musician and music director for over 30 years, he has lived in Urbana since 2003.
Robert Pollock and the 1903 Wurlitzer 125 Marching Band Organ will be back in the spotlight at 2:30pm until the end at 4pm.
In addition to entertainment, 39 new vendors join the festivities, more food options than ever before, and a new treasure hunt inside the museum. The 50th Oktoberfest will be the largest ever and everyone will be invited to participate.
