ISLAMABAD, Sept. 30 (AP) A Taliban official confirmed that an explosion occurred in a Shiite community in the Afghan capital Kabul on Friday morning.
Local media reported that the explosion occurred inside an education centre in the Dashti Barchi area.
The Taliban-appointed interior ministry spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor said the blast occurred in the early hours of the morning, but could not provide further details.
“Our team has been dispatched to the blast site to learn more details,” Thakor said.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, the latest in a string of ongoing violence since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan more than a year ago.
The Islamic State group – the Taliban’s top rival – has previously targeted mosques and worshippers, especially members of Afghanistan’s Shiite community. (Associated Press)
