Both the UK and the US have announced a raft of new sanctions on Russia following Moscow’s annexation of Ukrainian territory.
The UK Foreign Office said Russia would now lose access to key Western services it relies on, including: IT consultancy, construction services, engineering services and transactional legal advice for certain commercial activities.
The UK has also banned the export of nearly 700 goods that are critical to Russia’s industrial and technological capabilities.
Elvira Nabiullina, governor of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, was also sanctioned.
A spokesman for the Office of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development said: “In her role, Nabiulina has been instrumental in guiding the Russian economy through the Russian regime’s illegal war against Ukraine and expanding the ruble into Ukrainian territory temporarily controlled by Russia. It played an important role.
“Nabiullina has been sanctioned and individuals will be affected by the asset freeze and travel ban.”
At the same time, the United States announced its own set of measures to sanction 14 members of the Russian military-industrial complex, including two international suppliers, to support Moscow’s military supply chain.
