ISLAMABAD: The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hamad Obeid Ibrahim Salim Al Zabi, visited Prime Minister Mohammad Sheikh Baz Sharif here on Friday and discussed issues of mutual concern .

The Prime Minister reiterated the importance Pakistan attaches to the brotherly relationship with the UAE and expressed his best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of its brotherly people.

He highlighted the widespread damage caused by recent floods in Pakistan and the government’s response to address the dire situation. In this regard, he expressed his gratitude to the UAE for its disaster relief assistance to the affected people and humanitarian assistance for the establishment of air corridors.

The Prime Minister added that Pakistan is committed to further deepening relations with the United Arab Emirates in all areas of mutual interest.

For five years, Pakistan and the UAE have enjoyed a close fraternal relationship that is firmly rooted in shared beliefs and shared values and cultures. The UAE is Pakistan’s largest trading partner and major source of investment in the Middle East.

Pakistan wants Japanese investment

Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif said on Friday that Pakistan wants Japan to invest in projects such as solar energy, clean drinking water and treatment, and wastewater and material discharge.

The Prime Minister expressed these views while speaking to a delegation of Japanese companies in Pakistan, led by Japan’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Satomi Ryuji. Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Mitsuhiro Wada also attended the ceremony.

He said Pakistan is rapidly benefiting from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydro as the money spent on expensive oil, gas and other fuels is an unbearable burden on the economy.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan is launching emergency projects to generate 10,000 megawatts of solar energy.

To this end, the government has drawn up an effective investment plan and has held pre-bid meetings of stakeholders, he said.

He said that under the solarization project, solar parks will be built and government buildings, commercial centers and tube wells will be converted to solar energy to save valuable foreign exchange.

He said Pakistan wants Japanese companies to invest in a public-private partnership model to establish projects in Karachi to provide clean drinking water and wastewater and material treatment and discharge.

The Prime Minister thanked the government and people of Japan for providing $7 million in financial assistance and for expressing sympathy for the loss of precious lives in Pakistan’s recent unprecedented and devastating floods.

Investment Committee Minister Chowdhury Salik Hussein, Commerce Minister Syed Navid Kamal, Minister of State for Industry and Production Syed Murtaza Mahmood, Minister of Finance Aisha Guth Dr. Pasha, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatimi and relevant officials attended the meeting.
