Bakhit Atiq al-Rumiti, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Karachi, said the flash floods caused severe damage to the people of Sindh and Balochistan.

The UAE Consul General met with the business community on Friday. Talking to business leaders in the city, he said the UAE government has been providing support in Pakistan in times of need and is continuing to help flood victims.

“The UAE and Pakistan have had a long-standing relationship. The late Sheikh Zayed established that relationship and it still exists today,” he said.

Consul General Rumiti also spoke about his relationship with Pakistan, saying: “I have been working in Pakistan for 20 years.” He said he worked in the earthquake-stricken area in 2005. He highlighted that the UAE government launched a flood relief operation in Pakistan in 2010.

The UAE Consul General stressed the need to step up rescue efforts for flood victims and said the UAE government is working hard to help flood victims. However, he said people affected by the floods needed more aid as they had no food to eat.

According to the Consul General, aid to the flood victims was insufficient and very scarce, despite the considerable damage they faced. He stressed that the business community should assist flood victims as the government cannot deal with disasters alone.

He told the business community in the metropolis that the UAE government has set up medical camps in different flood-hit areas. He also urged them to come forward and help flood victims.

He added that businessmen who want to invest in the UAE must do so because they will be supported.
