The Midland County Elections Office is looking for bilingual staff to help with early voting.

City council, committee vacancies
The Midland City Board of Directors and Committees have eight seats (due to term expiration or vacancy).
The city council began making appointments for the new fiscal year in September. Most semesters will start on October 1. Term generally varies from 2 to 4 years. A full list of boards/committees and meeting schedules is attached to the application form, which can be found on the city’s website.
Applications are available at the City Clerk’s Office, Room 330, City Hall, 685-7441.The app can also be downloaded from the city website www.midlandtexas.gov (Select Government, then click Boards and Committees). The application deadline is Tuesday at 5pm.
Below is a list of the remaining boards/committees with vacant seats:
- Midland – Odessa Urban Transport District Committee – 1 seat,
- Parks and Recreation Commission – 2 seats,
- Zoning Committee and Airport Zoning Committee – 1 seat and 4 alternate seats.
Midland Retirement School Personnel Association
The Midland Association of Retirement School Personnel will hold its next meeting on Thursday at First Baptist Church, 2104 Louisiana Avenue.
Sessions will begin at 11:45 am and lunch will be $6. For reservations, please call 349-6822 or email Anita Patton or apatton123@sbcglobal.
Texas Size Garage For Sale
Senior Life Midland will have a Texas-sized garage sale at 407 E. Scharbauer Drive on October 7-8 and 11-12 from 9 am to 3 pm.
There is a VIP shopping experience where people can “peek” at items. This will take place on September 20th from 5pm to 8pm. The fee is $50. Call 432-689-6693 for more information.
Writers Seminar Scholarship
Full Scholarship will be offered to West Texas High School, College and University of Texas Permian Basin students as well as four English teachers or deserving youth attending the annual Writers Symposium October 8-9 “At Midland College.

MLK Children’s Program
Beginning October 3rd, Midland Parks and Recreation will host a new children’s program at the MLK Center at 2300 Butternut Lane.
They include:
- Monday: Game night for ages 6-14 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. We will provide a variety of board games for kids.
- Thursday: Crafts for kids ages 6-14 from 5:30pm-7pm
- Wednesday: 11am Children’s Story Time.
There is a $1 participation fee per program, payable at the front desk upon arrival.

- October 6 League of Women Voters – MISD, 5:30-6:30pm, Midland City 6:45-7:45pm in Carrasco Hall.
- Basin PBS takes place on October 11th, 13th and 17th. Debate will be televised on October 11, 7-8:30pm – MISD School Board, Mayor’s Forum, October 13th, 7-8pm, Midland City Council, 7-7pm October 17th at 8pm.
- The Midland Republican National Hispanic Congress will hold its forum October 17-19. MISD candidates will be held at SpringHill Suites, 5716 Boulevard Deauville, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Midland City Council Forum will be held on October 19th from 11:30am to 12:30pm (Mayor) and 12:30pm to 1:30pm (District 4).
- The Midland Black Business and Professional Women’s Club was held on October 22nd at the MLK Jr. Community Center.Forum will include judges, school board and city council candidates at 10 a.m. and mayoral candidates at 1 p.m.
