Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins recently told the Orlando Sentinel that the organization is planning to begin building the long-awaited $500 million-plus Downtown Sports + Entertainment District By the end of March 2023.
He added that the project was expected to be a “two-year construction process” and be completed “sometime in 2025”, but was not sure when.
Pat Gallagher, Director of Sports + Recreation, told GrowthSpotter in early September that the team would release more information About projects in the next few months.
“We’re still going very well and certainly believe we should have construction done by the end of the first quarter of next year to start some construction,” Martins said. “As we said, our development partners are working hard to finalize all financings. They want to get through this calendar year. If the market stays the same and doesn’t get worse, hopefully we will be in the market by the end of the first quarter [of 2023]. “
The sports + entertainment area will be a mixed-use area 8.4 acres north of the Amway Center and east of the team’s training facility, the center also houses an orthopaedic and sports medicine clinic operated by AdventHealth.
The project will include several amenities, including a hotel tower, restaurants, conference and retail space, parking and 420,000 square feet of office space.

The Magic are bringing a yet-to-be-announced development partner to the Sports + Entertainment District.
“The pandemic actually caused us to need to change our development partners, so we went through that process last year,” Martins said. “They are very excited about it and believe in developing the vision that will come together and the parts of it.
“It’s very similar to what we’re talking about: hotels, offices, music venues and retail related to sports and entertainment. The vision and plans remain largely the same. We have a development partner who believes in that vision and believes it will be very successful. “
