AD Ports Group, operator of the emirate’s industrial cities and free zones, said it had received its first international cargo at the Mugharraq port in the Al Dhafra region.
Last year, the Port of Mugharraq was certified as an international port facility by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure under the International Ship and Port Facility Safety Code (ISPS Code).
Saif Al Mazrouei, chief executive of AD Ports Group’s port cluster, said on Thursday that this was an “important milestone in expanding new international business opportunities and will enhance Abu Dhabi’s position as a global trade hub”.
The marine facility has undergone a series of major upgrades, such as deepening work and the extension of the quay wall. The port provides marine, oil and gas and general cargo services, connecting Abu Dhabi’s Del Mar Island with ferry services.
The arrival of the first cargo “demonstrates our commitment to the continued development of the Al Dhafra region – catering for both commercial and leisure maritime activities”, said Mubarak Al Mazrouei, the group’s acting managing director for the port of Mussafah and the Al Dhafra region.
“Our international certification will support the development of Mugharraq port’s logistics capabilities, particularly in the global energy market.”
Founded in 2006, AD Ports Group owns and operates Khalifa Port, Zayed Port, Mussafah Port, Fujairah Port, Community Port, Kamsar Port and Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal in the UAE10 ports, and a wharf in Guinea.
In addition to providing a range of maritime services, it also manages more than 550 square kilometers of industrial areas and end-to-end logistics operations.
