Alabama Mobile (there is nothing) — There’s a lot to look forward to in the entertainment district in October, with roving police cracking down on underage curfews to keep people safe in the city center.
A flashing sign in Bienville Square reminded people that teenagers should not be roaming the streets without a guardian after 10 p.m. The curfew, in effect from 10pm to 5am, is not just a suggestion.
Police will check IDs and any minors who violate the curfew will be detained.A parent or guardian must accompany any child after 10pm
“We need a teen curfew because kids these days think they can do things like adults, and there should be a distinction between adults and kids,” said Denise Martin, a frequent downtown visitor.
Meanwhile, the 24th annual Dauphin Street Beer Festival kicks off in the city centre on Saturday night. There will be 39 beer samples, 13 venues, and a great weather.
Squid Ink general manager Amber Harris said: “I think it’s going to be a great day to walk around and try a lot of different beers.”
Places like Squid Ink have sold twice as many tickets as last year, and they’re putting safety first, too.
“I think the new curfew is a good idea,” Harris said. “It will keep us safe. We are doing our part here to keep it safe. We will check our IDs and we will have extra staff for the Oktoberfest.”
