One partial solar eclipse will be United Arab Emirates October 25th and many other parts of the world.

It will reach a maximum at 3.52pm, when 35.4% of the Sun’s surface will be covered by the Moon.

The European Space Agency says the moon blocks light from the sun and casts a shadow on Earth in which anyone in that shadow can see the eclipse.

It is important to wear protective eyewear to safely observe a solar eclipse, as exposure can cause retinal damage. Sunglasses will not provide this protection.

This year will see the event across much of Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and West Asia.

“The eclipse can be full or partial,” ESA said.

“During a total solar eclipse, the sun, moon and Earth are perfectly aligned, with the moon covering the entire solar disk.

“During a partial eclipse, the three are not perfectly aligned, so only part of the sun is covered by the moon – it looks as if the moon took a bite from the sun.”

An eclipse can last up to seven and a half minutes, depending on the positions of the three celestial bodies.

A few days before the event, the Orionid meteor shower will also be seen in the UAE.

About 10 to 20 meteors streak across the sky every hour from October 21 to 22.

Meteor, debris from Comet 1P/Haley, traveling at 66 kilometers per second.

The moon will rise at 2.24am and the illumination is expected to be about 17%. The meteor shower is expected to be clearly visible in the UAE skies as there is little lunar interference.

The moon will be in a waning crescent phase, which means it will shrink.

It is recommended to observe the meteor shower away from light pollution for better viewing opportunities.

In November, when the Moon’s illuminance reaches 44%, the Leonid meteor shower will occur.

The Geminid meteor shower will appear in December, and the lunar illuminance is expected to reach 72%.
