Emirates News Agency – UAE celebrates World Teachers’ Day

ABU DHABI, 4th October, 2022 (WAM) — Tomorrow, the UAE will celebrate the annual World Teachers’ Day on 5th October in recognition of the role of teachers in encouraging innovation.

Emirati teachers have received great attention and appreciation from the community for their efforts to develop a conscious and educated generation.

During the first 50 years of the UAE’s history, the number of public school teachers increased by 1,853% from 5,530 in 1975 to 108,020 in 2020.

The UAE continues to roll out incentive initiatives highlighting the role of teachers and cutting-edge teaching methods locally and globally.

Mohamed bin Zayed Best Teacher Award

Launched in 2017 and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Mohamed bin Zayed Best Teacher Awards, the Mohamed bin Zayed Best Teacher Awards highlight talented and outstanding teachers in their schools and regions work.

For the fourth edition, the award will be open to foreign and non-Arabic language teachers working in private and international schools. Its registration process will also be conducted in English and will be open to teachers from other countries, including Syria, Morocco, Iraq, Tunisia, Switzerland, Finland and Austria.

Khalifa Education Award

The Khalifa Education Prize aims to support educational institutions, encourage innovation, and promote a culture of innovation and excellence among UAE citizens. The award is not limited to the UAE, but also includes other parts of the Arab region.

Requirements for the award vary by category and include general education, education for determined people, higher education, academic research, children’s education authors, innovative educational projects and programs, educational legal personality, and education and community service.

Faculty Ambassador Program

The teacher ambassador programme launched by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre supports outstanding teachers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to represent schools in the UAE’s Mars mission initiative.
