Paramount takes over the revival of “Frasier”.
The iconic sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer, Jane Reeves and Perry Gilbert will return a long-awaited return after Paramount gave the project the green light.
Kelsey, 67, will reprise her role as Dr. Fraser Crane, which he played for the first time in Cheers before getting his own spinoff.
According to Deadline, the actor has been the driving force behind the revival of “Frasier,” which has now been officially taken over by Paramount.
The upcoming series will be produced by CBS Studios in conjunction with Kelsey’s Grammnet NH Productions.
However, the number of episodes has yet to be determined.
Earlier this year, Kelsey revealed he was in the “final stages” of developing a “Fraser” reboot.
He said at the time: “There’s something about maybe [shooting in] October, maybe a little later. I have no idea. There are other things going on. We’ve developed a few other projects and it looks like they’ll be shooting first.
“But we’re in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of ‘Frasier’, the reboot. It looks good. I’ve done it a few times and I’m crying, so you know, I’m happy.”
Kelsey also joked about his own importance to the project.
The actor, who starred in Cheers from 1984 to 1993, said: “The key factor in the Frazier reboot was actually Frazier. It was always called [Frasier], so it’s me, the key is me. “
Before that, Kelsey revealed he was keen to reunite the old cast, describing the reboot as a “third act.”
He said: “We have a story to tell – honestly, with or without them – but I want them back because that’s what I’ve always dreamed of. I think we should explore in their third act their whole life, and so this is my hope.”
