Depeche Mode will never replace the “only” Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Depeche Mode will never replace the late keyboardist Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.

Dave Gahan and Martin Gore just announced their new album ‘Memento Mori’ and a 2023 tour, their first time without Fletch, who died in May at the age of 60, the duo insisted their beloved bandmates is irreplaceable.

Dave, 60, said: “We’re not going to replace Fletch; there’s no reason to replace Fletch.

“That’s impossible. There’s only one Fletch, that’s for sure.”

Their upcoming LP is due to be released early next year, and Andy is excited to be “ready” before his death.

The title is Latin and means “Remember you [have to] die,” but they wanted to use it as a reminder to live each day like your last.

Martin, 61, said: “Obviously everyone would think that all the songs were written soon after Andy died.

“But everything was planned and ready. Unfortunately Andy passed away when he was really looking forward to starting with us. So I prefer the idea of ’memento mori’, in a more positive way, in ‘Live your day and make the most of your time here’.”

“A lot” of Dave was thinking about Fletcher when he sang these songs.

“This is the first time we’ve done something like this without Fletch,” he said.

“All the songs were written before Fletcher died, but when something like this happens in your life, the songs change: when you sing them, they take on a different form and a different meaning I think when I sing some vocals, I’m thinking about all kinds of things, but Fletch does come to my mind a lot.”

The hit producer of “Enjoy the Silence” was “closer” after Andy’s death, Martin said, admitting that he and Dave had been preparing to work behind the scenes, while Fletcher had been the face of the electronic band for years.

Martin told Rolling Stone: “It’s obviously really hard to lose your closest friend.

“Andy was with me before the band, and I feel like he was the one who was with me all the way. So it was very tough.”

He said: “After his death, we gradually realised that he did play a major role in the band.

“Dave and I are not super social, and Andy is. If we had to do anything, [Fletch] Will go in and chat with everyone and Dave and I can hide somewhere in the corner. Even though we’ve been together for 40 years, Dave and I are more connected because of Andy’s passing, because we had to. And before that, as I said, Andy was the glue. He really brought us together; he was the connected part. “
